Day at the Docks- Hatteras Village

I just got home from the annual Day at the Docks in Hatteras Village. We participated in the chowder cook-off for the second year in a row. The Breakwater took first place with Island Perks coming in second, but I'd like to think that we gave'em a run for their money. Nonetheless, it was fun, and I think it's good publicity to be a part of the celebration. It's a good chance to see a lot of friends who have gotten lost in the crowds of tourists and hiding at their respective workplaces all summer long. It is the last official day of summer. We were blessed with beautiful weather for the festivities, and there seemed to be a good turnout. I am thankful to all of the people who worked so hard to put it together for the sake of the Watermen's Association and the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation. I wish I was up to the dance tonight, but it's amazing how ladling hundreds of chowder tastings will wear you out!

Fourth of July- Hatteras Village

As I wind down from the kind of day I remember having every day throughout the season in previous years once Memorial Day hit, I wonder if the peak season may have finally set it in. At least I hope so. The Fourth is right around the corner, and we're hoping for the best. With fireworks being held in Hatteras Village, we will be running a dollar hot dog special all day Saturday in conjunction with drink specials for a quick bite before the show. You can also get your pasta salads, potato salad, cole slaw, and deli meats & cheeses by the pound for your Fourth of July beach bbqs on the beach or at the rental house. Open Mic in Hatteras

Every Thursday evening at Stowe on Twelve shopping center at the north end of Hatteras village, tourists and locals alike have converged for a weekly open mic at Kaia's Kitchen & Market. If you are in the area and are looking for something to do, it is definitely worth checking out. We have been blessed with some very talented musicians playing a wide variety of instruments and styles. All ages are welcome so come out with your families....serving food and drinks from 7pm to 11pm every Thursday. We will see you there!
